This tale has been recorded and will be uploaded to the video gallery on 01.07.25, where it will be available to watch for free – together with many, many other tales.

 Although widely known from the version in Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron, that text illustrates the problems of translating a literary version into a tale which can be effectively performed today (a process considered in detail in my From Page to Stage workshops.)

In a Storytell listserv discussion, Rona Leventhal sent a Jewish variant, Herchel and the Goose from While Standing on One Foot: Puzzle Stories and Wisdom Tales from the Jewish Tradition.
