The Magic Ring

A bawdy French fairy tale of a ring which helped a young man stay long and strong, and also helped a priest into heaven

I enjoy telling the full range of traditional stories, and that includes more adult ones like this old tale. The challenge involves being explicit, while ensuring everyone in the audience feels comfortable.

I met a rather literary version of the story in Le Livre des amour (Henri Gougaud, 1996), translated as Erotische Volksmärchen.

The creation of a performable story from such a source is explored in my From Page to Stage workshops.
The next opportunity for this workshop: Akademie Remscheid, 13th – 15th March 2024.
